Celebration Assembly

On Friday we had the last Celebration Assembly for us to share our learning. We chose to share Knowing Me, Knowing You. We used the Reremoana Learning Model to do this.

Singing Irish Music with the Pukeko Team

Sharing the Reremoana Learning Model

Sharing our writing after reflect on how to 'hook' people in to read it.

Collaborating means working together.
We played a ball game together after talking about who should start.

Our final song with the team was Brontosaurus Boogie.

We are proud of the work we have done this year.

Buddy Reading

We are now having regular, 3 times a week, Buddy Reading with Room 6. They have been taught how to listen, pause, prompt and praise the children in Room 12 when they read. The children are building up a great rapport with each other.

More exciting writing

More of the writing we have done with exciting beginnings to hook you into reading them.
Run, Run, Go, Go! Today we did sprints. I won! I love sprints.
Tayla
“On your marks, Get Set, Go!” went Mrs Majury. People ran as fast as they could. I was about to be the winner but people just came past me.
by Stephanie
Zing, Zing, Zing. People going past me. So who cares. It is just a race.
by Jordan.
In a taxi we go. “The Airport!” I say. We go on the plane. It flies for a long time. When we are taking off we get lollies. We are going to Australia!
by Daniel
Scream! Scream! I am getting dizzy. Spew! Spew! I am getting sick. I want to stop now!

We are trying to write stories so that people will want to read them.

Down the driveway I go on my bike. Past the letterbox, up the hill, past the playground, down the hill, past the beach to the bakery. We get some hot chips. Finally we get home. We eat them. Immmm delicious!
by Ella

I was going into the shed, my Pop built a box and a giraffe and a tank. Daniel and I are colouring it in.
by Jordan.

I am so scared when I go down the tracks. We have to sit down otherwise we will fall out. It is scary at Rainbows End.
by Tayla

On the plane I was going to open the window but when I looked at the window there was no window only a curtain.

Halloween
Down past houses Trick or Treaters come to my house. Down each street, creeping along some scary people come.
by Zachary

It's Halloween people! Come past my house because bats fly past my house. I am going to wear a fairy dress at Halloween. Halloween is fun and scary. The people give us lollies and a special Halloween Bag. My bag is a bat.
by Britney

The ghosts are coming! They are scary! They can go through your body. Ghosts scare babies.
by Rittivong

Quick get the lollies before they get here. Before he gets here! The people dressed up and Ashley came and got some lollies.
by Jessika

Down past houses Trick or Treaters come and I was scared of the monsters. I like Halloween because I dressed like a witch and my friend Ashlee dressed up like a fairy. We all like Halloween. Down past houses Trick or Treaters come. We all love ghosts.

One Tree Hill Volcano Visit

We had to keep warm and well fed to tackle the weather for our trip to One Tree Hill to look at the volcanoes in Auckland and the craters on One Tree Hill

We were able to complete some of the questions that were on our sheets. Luckily we had some great parents and grandparents to help.

We carefully studied the rocks in the crater and found they had air bubbles in like the hokey pokey we had made. Some were small and others large. We noticed that the rocks had been used in the walls around the mountain.

Earthquakes

We looked at how the plates in the earth pushed together to form an earthquake.

We also used sand and water to make liquifaction.

Here are some of our stories about earthquakes

The earth was shaking. by Jayden
If I was in Christchurch my house will fall down. by Robbie
One house is falling straight down. by Kaylee
The earthquake is rumbling. by Haylee
An earthquake is really bad because it might kill you if you are near a glass door. You will cut your skin very badly and blood will come out. by Joshua
When the was no earthquake the house was standing straight. When the earthquake was shaking the house fell towards the right. by Daniel
An earthquake is very scary. When there is an earthquake you have to get under a table and hold on to the table leg. If the table moves you will go with the table. by Stephanie
In Christchurch there was an earthquake and the roof was falling off . They will put it back on the house. The house was wobbly and then it was straight again. Then the earthquake was over. by Samantha
The earthquake is really bad. Houses can fall down and towers can fall off buildings too. by Britney

Our Earth

We have some questions about what is happening to Our Earth at the moment. There have been earthquakes, tsunami and volcanoes. We started with Volcanoes and looked at how they come through the earths crust. We made some volcanoes in the sandpit to see what it would look like.
We found some rock that had been thrown out of a volcano. It was rock with holes in it. We made hokey pokey to see how the air was trapped inside when it cooled.

Making Volcanoes in the sandpit. Look how the lava flows down the side. Can you see the bubbles?
We made hokey pokey which was very hot. It bubbled like lava and caught air inside it when it cooled just like the rock from a volcano.
